Common Game

Occasionally - and more often than you would like - developers do an update that's entirely out of step with players' expectations.

With one high-handed move, they can completely lose the `dressing room.' And this is what seems to have happened with Among Us.

However, there's still time for them to turn things around. Meantime, if you are fresh to the game, the old hands' grousing won't be a significant downside (see the Cons). Among Us is seriously good as it gets the nod for Editors' Choice on both Google Play and Apple's App Store.

More

The plotline for Among Us is a little like Cluedo, only set in space. And there's no lead piping or Professor Plums in sight.

Instead, what you get is something all the more darker and sinister. The setup is that you and the crew are homeward bound. However, a crew member has been replaced by a shapeshifting alien.

The game's object is for you to keep things together on your spaceship until you can figure out who's the alien impostor.

Unlike Cluedo, however, in Among Us, the murders continue until you have finally identified the shapeshifter. Their goal is to eliminate the entire crew before your spaceship reaches your home planet.

The impostor being an extraterrestrial parasite is as fiendishly deceptive as you would imagine. They will sabotage your ship, crawl through air vents, lie, and frame others for the murders to continue their killing spree.

You need to spend time repairing your ship, but work is halted whenever a body is found. The remaining crew members then openly discuss who they think is the impostor. The impostor will do everything in their power to remain above suspicion.

If the impostor is not voted off, repair work resumes until the next body turns up. The crew only wins if they can correctly identify and vote off the alien substitute crew member.

No one in this game is above suspicion. Each match is an intriguing battle of wits, which makes for intriguing gameplay. Like many a TV show, the vote is an enigmatic mix of accusations and misdirection to see who gets voted off the ship.
